Primary Children's GI Specialist visit.....

Ok, so I know this is a bit late, but yeah. I got a call, on Monday, from the GI office. They said that there was a cancellation for Tuesday and if it would work out for us to come in. I said, "We'll make it work!" Because who knows when I would be able to get another call?! So, Tuesday came and we drove to Primary's Children Hospital. We were seen REALLY fast, very surprising! The nurse weighed her and measured her. She weighed in at 13 lbs 6 oz., which is 2 oz. less from the week before. We talked to our doctor's physician for 1 1/2 hours about Alyssa's history and everything we had tried to help her. She left the room and brought the doctor in to see her. She kept saying how cute she was, but how she was such a peanut because she is so small! She then asked us if there was any allergies in the family. We told them that Maddie is sensitive to milk and cheese. Cody is lactose intollerant and allergic to milk. Cody's younger brother in sensitive to milk and Cody's older brother's little boy is severely allergic to milk! The doctor then said that because of all of the allergies in the family, she might have a milk allergy as well. So, they are having us try some new formula called Elecare. It's an amino-acid with NO milk proteins in it! For a case of 6-14.1 oz cans, it costs $197. They are having us put 3 scoops of formula to 5 oz. of water in every bottle, so we will need 2 cases in 1 month! Right now, we are trying to fill out some paperwork to send to our insurance to see if they can help cover a percentage. The doctor also increased the doseage of zantac and lowered the dose of erythromisin. They want us to come back in 6 weeks to check up on her. If the formula doesn't work, they will do a scope on her and do a biopsy of her intestines! Poor little girl! So far, the formula is working really well! She doesn't spit up that much anymore...it's pretty nice! The dietician said that most babies hate the taste so we would probably need to do half of the new formula and half of enfimil. The first bottle I gave her, she didn't seem to mind, so she's getting faster treatment! YAY!!! She is such a trooper for putting up with so much horrifying stuff!

This picture was taken a couple weeks ago when we were at AF hospital ER. She had so many IV tries, that when all was said and done, she fell asleep while I tried changing her diaper on my lap!

She has now said her first word, "baba" and she gas learned how to shake her head "no", but she only does it when SHE wants to, the stubborn butt!
